Which one of the following statement is WRONG in the context of X-rays generated from X-ray tube?
- A Wavelength of characteristic X-rays decreases when the atomic number of the target increases
- B Cut-off wavelength of the continuous X-rays depends on the atomic number of the target
- C Intensity of the characteristics X-rays depends on the electrical power given to the X-ray tube
- D Cut-off wavelength of the continuous X-rays depends on the energy of the electrons in the X-ray tube
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(B) Cut-off wavelength of the continuous X-rays depends on the atomic number of the target
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
Cut-off wavelength depends on the applied voltage not on the atomic number of the target. Characteristic wavelengths depend on the atomic number of target.

JEE Advanced 2009 Medium - A block \((B)\) is attached to two unstretched \(S_1\) and \(S_2\) with spring constants \(k\) and \(4 k\), respectively (see figure I). The other ends are attached to identical supports \(M_1\) and \(M_2\) not attached to the walls. The springs and supports have negligible mass. There is no friction anywhere. The block \(B\) is displaced towards wall 1 by a small distance \(x\) (figure II) and released. The block returns and moves a maximum distance \(y\) towards wall 2 . Displacements \(x\) and \(y\) are measured with respect to the equilibrium position of the block \(B\). The ratio \(\frac{y}{-1}\) is

- Column I shows four situations of standard Young's double slit arrangement with the screen placed far away from the slits \(S_1\) and \(S_2\). In each of these cases \(S_1 P_0=S_2 P_0\), \(S_1 P_1-S_2 P_1=\frac{\lambda}{4}\) and \(S_1 P_2-S_2 P_2=\frac{\lambda}{3}\), where \(\lambda\) is the wavelength of the light used. In the cases \(\mathrm{B}, \mathrm{C}\) and \(\mathrm{D}\), a transparent sheet of refractive index \(\mu\) and thickness \(t\) is pasted on slit \(S_2\). The thickness of the sheets are different in different cases. The phase difference between the light waves reaching a point \(P\) on the screen from the two slits is denoted by \(\delta(P)\) and the intensity by \(I(P)\). Match each situation given in Column-I with the statement(s) in Column-II valid for that situation.

JEE Advanced 2012 Medium - Paragraph :
A thermally insulating cylinder has a thermally insulating and frictionless movable partition in the middle, as shown in the figure below. On each side of the partition, there is one mole of an ideal gas, with specific heat at constant volume, \(C_{V}=2 R\). Here, \(R\) is the gas constant. Initially, each side has a volume \(V_{0}\) and temperature \(T_{0}\). The left side has an electric heater, which is turned on at very low power to transfer heat \(Q\) to the gas on the left side. As a result the partition moves slowly towards the right reducing the right side volume to \(V_{0} / 2\). Consequently, the gas temperatures on the left and the right sides become \(T_{L}\) and \(T_{R}\), respectively. Ignore the changes in the temperatures of the cylinder, heater and the partition.
