Which of the following statement is in accordance with the Arrhenius equation?
- A Rate of a reaction increases with increase in temperature
- B Rate of a reaction increases with decrease in activation energy
- C Rate constant decreases exponentially with increase in temperature
- D Rate of reaction does not change with increase in activation energy
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(A) Rate of a reaction increases with increase in temperature
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
According to Arrhenius equation
\[
k=A e^{\frac{-E_{s}}{R T}} \rightarrow(1)
\]
Taking log of Eq. (1), we get
\[
\ln k=\ln A-\frac{E_{a}}{R} \times \frac{1}{T}
\]
It is clear from the above equation that by increasing the temperature and by decreasing activation energy, the rate of
reaction will increase.
