The electric field vector oscillates according to the equation \( \vec{E} = 4 \sin [1.8y + (5.4 \times 10^8)t] \hat{k} \). The equation of magnetic field vector is:
- A \( \vec{B} = 1.33 \times 10^{-8} \sin [1.8y + (5.4 \times 10^8)t] \hat{i} \)
- B \( \vec{B} = 4 \sin [1.8y + (5.4 \times 10^8)t] \hat{j} \)
- C \( \vec{B} = 1.33 \times 10^{-8} \sin [1.8y + (5.4 \times 10^8)t] \hat{k} \)
- D \( \vec{B} = 5 \sin [1.8y + (5.4 \times 10^8)t] \hat{j} \)
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(A) \( \vec{B} = 1.33 \times 10^{-8} \sin [1.8y + (5.4 \times 10^8)t] \hat{i} \)
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
\( E_0 = 4 \text{ V/m} \) \( B_0 = E_0/c = 4 / (3 \times 10^8) = 1.33 \times 10^{-8} \text{ T} \) Propagation direction: \( -\hat{j} \). Electric field direction: \( \hat{k} \). \( \vec{E} \times \vec{B} \) must be in the direction of propagation \( -\hat{j} \).…

- There are two kinds of nucleases - exonucleases and endonucleases. Exonucleases remove nucleotides from the ends of the DNA whereas, endonucleases make cuts at specific positions within the DNA. The cutting of DNA by restriction endonucleases results in the fragments of DNA. These fragments can be separated by a technique known as gel electrophoresis. Since DNA fragments are negatively charged molecules they can be separated by forcing them to move towards the anode under an electric field through a medium/matrix. Small volume cultures cannot yield appreciable quantities of products. To produce in large quantities, the development of bioreactors, where large volumes (100 - 1000 litres) of culture can be processed, was required. Thus, bioreactors can be thought of as vessels in which raw materials are biologically converted into specific products, individual enzymes, etc., using microbial plant, animal or human cells. PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction. In this reaction, multiple copies of the gene (or DNA) of interest are synthesised in vitro using two sets of primers (small chemically synthesised oligonucleotides that are complementary to the regions of DNA) and the enzyme DNA polymerase.

Our immune system plays the major role in preventing diseases when we are exposed to disease-causing agents. Immunity is of two types: (i) Innate immunity and (ii) Acquired immunity. The human immune system consists of lymphoid organs, tissues, cells and soluble molecules like antibodies. The immune system also plays an important role in allergic reactions, auto-immune diseases and organ transplantation. The primary lymphoid organs are bone marrow and thymus. The secondary lymphoid organs are spleen, lymph nodes, tonsils, Peyer's patches of small intestine and appendix. There is lymphoid tissue also located within the lining of the major tracts (respiratory, digestive and urogenital tracts) called mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). It is important to note that HIV/AIDS is not spread by mere touch or physical contact; it spreads only through body fluids. AIDS has no cure, prevention is the best option. Adolescence is accompanied by several biological and behavioural changes and surveys and statistics show that use of drugs and alcohol has been on the rise especially among the youth. Factors associated with drug and alcohol abuse among adolescents are a child's natural curiosity, stress, the perception among youth that it is 'cool' or progressive to smoke, media exposure and an unstable or unsupportive family structures and peer pressure. It is best to identify the situations that may push an adolescent towards use of drugs or alcohol, and to take remedial measures well in time.
