A shopkeeper has 300 Kg millet, a part of which he sells at \(10 \%\) profit. The remaining quantity of millet was of poor quality, and he sold it at a \(5\%\) loss. In the whole transaction, he made a profit of \(7 \%\). The quantity of the millet sold at \(5\%\) loss is :
- A 50 Kg
- B 60 Kg
- C 100 Kg
- D 30 Kg
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(B) 60 Kg
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
Let \(x\) be the quantity sold at \(10\% \) profit. \(0.10x - 0.05(300 - x) = 0.07(300)\) \(0.10x - 15 + 0.05x = 21\) \(0.15x = 36\) \(x = \frac{36}{0.15} = 240 \text{ Kg}\) Quantity sold at \(5\% \) loss \( = 300 - 240 = 60 \text{ Kg}\)

Insulin consists of two short polypeptide chains : chain A and chain B, that are linked together by disulphide bridges. The first clinical gene therapy was given in 1990 to a 4-year old girl with adenosine deaminase (ADA) deficiency. This enzyme is crucial for the immune system to function. Recombinant DNA technology, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Enzyme Linked Immuno-sorbent Assay (ELISA) are some of the techniques that serve the purpose of early diagnosis of diseases. Transgenic animals that produce useful biological products can be created by the introduction of the portion of DNA (or genes) which codes for a particular product such as human protein (α-1-antitrypsin) used to treat emphysema. Biopiracy is the term used to refer to the use of bio-resources by multinational companies and other organisations without proper authorisation from the countries and people concerned without compensatory payment.

Certain types of leukocytes (WBC) of our body like polymorpho-nuclear leukocytes (PMNL-neutrophils) and monocytes and natural killer (type of lymphocytes) in the blood as well as macrophages in tissues can phagocytose and destroy microbes. For determining the cause of allergy, the patient is exposed to or injected with very small doses of possible allergens, and the reactions studied. The use of drugs like anti-histamine, adrenalin and steroids quickly reduce the symptoms of allergy. Heroin, commonly called smack is chemically diacetylmorphine which is a white, odourless, bitter crystalline compound. This is obtained by acetylation of morphine. Techniques like radiography (use of X-rays), CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) are very useful to detect cancers of the internal organs. Different species of Plasmodium (P. vivax, P. malaria and P. falciparum) are responsible for different types of malaria. Of these, malignant malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum is the most serious one and can even be fatal.

Werner in 1898, propounded his theory of coordination compounds. In coordination compounds metals show two types of linkages (valences)-primary and secondary. The primary valences are normally ionisable and are satisfied by negative ions. The secondary valences are non-ionisable. These are satisfied by neutral molecules or negative ions. The secondary valence is equal to the coordination number and is fixed for a metal. The ions or group bound by the secondary linkages to the metal have characteristic spatial arrangements corresponding to the different coordination numbers. Both double salts as well as complexes are formed by the combination of two or more stable compounds in stoichiometric ratio. However, they differ in the fact that double salts such as carnallite, Mohr's salt, potash alum etc. dissociate into simple ions completely when dissolved in water. But complex ions do not dissociate completely into simple ions.
