Which of the following statements are correct for dilute solutions?
(A) The elevation in boiling point is directly proportional to the molality of the solution.
(B) The elevation in boiling point is inversely proportional to the molality of the solution.
(C) The depression in freezing point is directly proportional to the molality of the solution.
(D) The depression in freezing point is inversely proportional to the molality of the solution.
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
- A (A) and (D) only
- B (A) and (C) only
- C (B) and (C) only
- D (B) and (D) only
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(B) (A) and (C) only
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
Statement (A) is correct: \( \Delta T_b \propto m \). Statement (C) is correct: \( \Delta T_f \propto m \). The correct answer is "(A) and (C) only".

Amines are considered to be derivatives of ammonia obtained by replacement of hydrogen atoms with alkyl or aryl groups. They are usually prepared from nitro compounds, halides, amides, imides etc. The presence of hydrogen bonding influences its physical properties. In alkylamines, a combination of electron releasing steric and hydrogen bonding factors influences the stability of substituted ammonium cations in protic polar solvents and thus affects the basic nature of amines. Alkyl amines are found to be stronger bases than ammonia which is more basic than water. Primary and secondary amines are engaged in intermolecular association due to hydrogen bonding. This intermolecular association is more in primary amines than in secondary amines. Tertiary amines do not have intermoleulcar association due to the absenceof hydrogen atom available for hydrogen bonding. Thus, the boiling point of amines depends on hydrogen bonding. In aromatic amines, electron releasing and withdrawing groups increase and decrease their basic character. Aryl diazonium salts usually obtained from arylamine undergo replacement of the diazonium group with a variety of nucleophile. Their coupling reaction of aryl diazonium salts with phenol or arylamine results in formation of dyes.

The term vitamin was coined from the word vital +amine since the earlier identified compounds had amino groups. Later work showed that most of them didn't contain amino groups. They are very essential for the body. They has to be taken various diet or in the form of medicines also.
Vitamins are classified into two groups depending upon their solubility in water or fat.
Fat soluble vitamins are soluble in fat and oils but insoluble in water. Thhey are stored in liver and adipose (fat storing) tissues Water soluble vitamins are soluble in water. These must be supplied regularly in diet because they are readily excreted in urine and cannot be stored in our body.
