Electrochemistry is the study involving two types of processes. One type involves the production of electricity from the energy released during a spontaneous chemical reaction. Galvanic cells like Daniel cells are used to produce electricity from the redox reaction. Nernst equation of a galvanic cell gives the relation between the standard cell potential and the concentration of the species involved in the redox reaction. The second type of study involves the cells in which electrical energy is used to bring about the chemical reactions in a non-spontaneous process. The conductance of electrolytic solution depends on many factors including the nature of the electrolyte and the dimensions of the electrolytic cell.

The carbonyl group of aldehydes and ketones is highly polar. The positively charged carbon is readily attacked by electron-rich nucleophile and the negatively charged oxygen atom is attacked by an electro-deficient electrophile. Aldehydes and ketones undergo nucleophilic addition reactions in the presence of acid or a base. The mechanism involves attack of a nucleophile on the electron deficient carbonyl carbon to form a tetrahedral intermediate. A new bond is formed between the carbon and oxygen. Protonation of the anion furnished by the reaction medium yields a neutral addition product. The addition product is same whether the reaction is catalyzed by acid or a base. For example in the presence of base aldehydes and ketones react with hydrogen cyanide to form cyanohydrin.
Which of the following reactions is not a nucleophilic addition reaction of aldehydes and ketones?CUET 2025 Hard - p-block elements are placed in groups 13 to 18 of the periodic table. Group 15 is nitrogen family. Nitrogen makes various compounds like \(NH _3, HNO _3, N_2 O , NO _2\) etc. Phosphorus exists in the form of white and red phosphorus. White phosphorus glows in dark. \(PH _3\) gas is used as smoke screen. Group 16 is called oxygen family. Dry air contains \(21\% O_2\) gas by volume. Combined sulphur exists as sulphates such as gypsum, epsome salt, baryte etc. The allotropic forms of sulphur are Rhombic and monoclinic sulphur. \(S_2\) is paramagnetic like \(O_2\) and it stable at high temperature. Group 17 is Halogen family. \(F_2\) is highly reactive, \(C l_2\) is greenish yellow gas. Both \(S O_2\) and \(C l_2\) are used for bleaching. Group 18 is Noble gas family but some noble gases also form compounds.
