Read the passage below and answer the question:
The accumulation of molecular species at the surface rather than in the bulk of a solid or liquid is termed as adsorption. There are two types of adsorption. In physisorption, attractive forces are mainly Van der Waals while in chemical adsorption adsorbate is held with chemical bonds adsorbent. Adsorption increases with increase in pressure and decreases as temperature is increased.
For Freundlich isotherm, graph of log(x/m) is plotted against logp. The slope of line and its Y axis intercepts respectively are:

  1. A \(\frac{1}{n}, k\)
  2. B \(\frac{1}{n}, \log k\)
  3. C \(n, \frac{1}{k}\)
  4. D \(n, \frac{1}{\log k}\)
Verified Solution

Answer & Solution

Correct Answer

(B) \(\frac{1}{n}, \log k\)

Step-by-step Solution

Detailed explanation

\(\frac{x}{m} = kp^{1/n}\) \(\log\left(\frac{x}{m}\right) = \log k + \frac{1}{n}\log p\) Slope \( = \frac{1}{n} \), Y-intercept \( = \log k \)
