Pick the reactions which can be used to distinguish between n-propyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol.
(A) Haloform reaction
(B) Dehydration
(C) Dehydrogenation with \(\mathrm{Cu} / 573 \mathrm{~K}\)
(D) Oxidation with \(\mathrm{CrO}_3\)
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
- A (A), (B) and (D) only
- B (A), (C) and (D) only
- C (A), (B), (C) and (D)
- D (B), (C) and (D) only
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(B) (A), (C) and (D) only
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
n-propyl alcohol is a primary alcohol, isopropyl alcohol is a secondary alcohol. (A) Haloform reaction: n-propyl alcohol (no) vs. isopropyl alcohol (yes). Distinguishes. (B) Dehydration: Both form propene. Does not distinguish. (C) Dehydrogenation with…

- Answer the question on basis of passage given below :
Transition metals form a large number of complexes or coordination compounds in which the metal atoms are bound to a number of anions or neutral molecules. The valence bond theory explain the formation, magnetic behaviour and geometrical shapes while the crystal field theory explains the effect of different crystal fields on the degeneracy of d-orbitals energies of the central metal atom/ion. This provides for the quantitative estimation of orbital separation energies, magnetic moments and spectral and stability parameters.

The concentration dependence of the rate of a reaction is called the differential rate equation. It is not always convenient to determine the instantaneous rate, as it is measured by calculating the slope of the tangent at point 't' in the concentration vs time plot. This makes it difficult to determine the rate and hence the order of the reaction. This difficulty is overcome by integrating the differential rate equation. This integrated rate equation gives a direct relation between concentrations at different times and the rate constant. The integrated rate equations are different for the reactions having different reaction orders.
A reaction is first order in A and second order in B. If the concentration of B is doubled its initial concentration and A is reduced to 3/4th of its initial concentration, the new rate of the reaction isCUET 2025 Hard - Match List I with List - II.
