For a general electrochemical reaction of the type :
\(a A+b B \rightarrow c C+d D\)
involving transfer of \(n\) electrons, the Nernst equation can be writtenas :
- A \(E_{\text {cell }}^{\circ}=E_{\text {cell }}-\frac{R T}{n F} \ln \frac{[C]^c[D]^d}{[A]^a[B]^b}\)
- B \(E_{\text {cell }}^{\circ}=E_{\text {cell }}-\frac{R T}{n F} \ln \frac{[A]^a[B]^b}{[C]^c[D]^d}\)
- C \(E_{\text {cell }}=E_{\text {cell }}^{\circ}-\frac{R T}{n F} \ln \frac{[C]^c[D]^d}{[A]^a[B]^b}\)
- D \(E_{\text {cell }}=E_{\text {cell }}^{\circ}-\frac{R T}{n F} \ln \frac{[A]^a[B]^b}{[C]^c[D]^d}\)

- p-block elements are placed in groups 13 to 18 of the periodic table. Group 15 is nitrogen family.
Nitrogen makes various compounds like \(NH _3, HNO _3, N_2 O , NO _2\) etc. Phosphorus exists in the form of white and red phosphorus. White phosphorus glows in dark. \(PH _3\) gas is used as smoke screen. Group 16 is called oxygen family. Dry air contains \(21\% O_2\) gas by volume. Combined sulphur exists as sulphates such as gypsum, epsome salt, baryte etc. The allotropic forms of sulphur are Rhombic and monoclinic sulphur. \(S_2\) is paramagnetic like \(O_2\) and it stable at high temperature.
Group 17 is Halogen family. \(F_2\) is highly reactive, \(Cl _2\) is greenish yellow gas. Both \(SO _2\) and \(Cl _2\) are used for bleaching. Group 18 is Noble gas family but some noble gases also form compounds.
Complete hydrolysis of \(XeF _6\) gives HF and \(XeO _3\) as main products.

In the formation of coordination complexes, if the inner \(d\) orbital \((n - 1)d\) is used in hybridisation, the complex, is called an inner orbital or low spin or spin paired complex. And if it uses outer \(d\) orbital \((nd)\) in hybridisation (like \(sp^3d^2\)), it is called outer orbital or high spin or spin free complex. The degeneracy of the \(d\) orbitals has been removed due to ligand electron-metal electron repulsions in the complex. This splitting of the degenerate levels due to the presence of ligands in a definite geometry is termed as crystal field splitting. For coordination complexes, the magnetic moment is determined by the number of unpaired electrons and is calculated by using the 'spin-only' formula, \(\mu = \sqrt{n(n+2)}\) where \(n\) is the number of unpaired electrons and \(\mu\) is the magnetic moment in units of Bohr magneton \((BM)\). The coordination compounds are of great importance. These compounds are widely present in the mineral, plant and animal worlds and are known to play many important functions in the area of analytical chemistry, metallurgy, biological systems, industry and medicine.
Fe(II) octahedral complexes can show different 'spin only' magnetic moments for arrangements in the presence of weak and strong ligands. The 'spin only' magnetic moments of these complexes with weak and strong ligands, respectively, areCUET 2023 Medium - Match List-l with List-II
