Carbohydrates are essential for both plants and animals. Some common examples of carbohydrates are glucose, fructose, sucrose, glycogen, cellulose and starch. They form a major portion of our food. Honey has been used for a long time as an instant source of energy in Ayurvedic medicine. Carbohydrates are used as storage molecules in both plants and animals. The cell wall of bacteria and plants is made of cellulose. We use cellulose in the form of wood for making furniture and as cotton fiber for clothing. They also provide raw material for textiles, paper, lacquers, and breweries. Carbohydrates are classified as Monosaccharides, Oligosaccharides and Polysaccharides on the basis of their behavior towards hydrolysis. Monosaccharides cannot be hydrolyzed further to simpler units whereas oligosaccharides can yield 2-10 units of monosaccharides on hydrolysis. Polysaccharides, which are non-sugars yield a large number of monosaccharide units on hydrolysis.

- Answer the question on basis of passage given below :
The noble gases He to Rn have close shell configuration and are monoatomic gases under normal conditions. Though mostly unreactive, but direct reaction of Xe with \(F_2\) leads to a series of compounds with Xe oxidation numbers \(+2,+4\) and +6 . When certain compounds like phenol and quinol are crystallised in the presence of noble gas such as \(Ar , Kr\) and Xe a category of compound called clathrates are formed. In these the noble gas atoms are trapped in the cavities of the crystal lattices. The compounds which crystallise are known as hosts (H) while the noble gas atoms are called guests ( \(G\) ). The general formula of a clathrate compound is \(n H m G\), where \(n\) is the number of host molecules and m is the number of atoms a molecule of guest.
In what molar ratio must Xe and \(F_2\) be taken to give \(XeF _4\) ?CUET 2023 Easy

The transition metals and their compounds are known for their catalytic activity. This activity is ascribed to their ability to adopt multiple oxidation states and to form complexes. Vanadium(V) oxide (in Contact Process), finely divided iron, and nickel (in Catalytic Hydrogenation) are some of the examples. Catalysts at a solid surface involve the formation of bonds between reactant molecules and atoms of the surface of the catalyst (first row transition metals utilise 3d and 4s electrons for bonding). This has the effect of increasing the concentration of the reactants at the catalyst surface and also weakening of the bonds in the reacting molecules (the activation energy is lowering). Also because the transition metal ions can change their oxidation states, they become more effective as catalysts.
Which of the following is incorrect about the ability of catalytic action of transition metals?CUET 2025 Easy - An oxidation of phenol with chromic acid producesCUET 2025 Hard

Cancerous cells just continue to divide giving rise to masses of cells called tumors. Benign tumors normally remain confined to their original location and do not spread to other parts of the body and cause little damage. The malignant tumors, on the other hand are a mass of proliferating cells called neoplastic or tumor cells. Transformation of normal cells into cancerous neoplastic cells may be induced by physical, chemical or biological agents. Ionising radiations like X-rays and gamma rays and non-ionizing radiations like UV cause cancer. Cancer-causing viruses are called oncogenic viruses which have viral oncogenes. The substances to which an immune response is produced are called allergens. The antibodies produced to these are of IgE type. Common examples of allergens are mites in dust, pollens, animal dander, etc. The primary lymphoid organs are bone marrow and thymus. The secondary lymphoid organs provide the sites for interaction of lymphocytes with the antigen, which then proliferate to become effector cells.
