CUET · CHEMISTRY · PYQ PAPER 2025
Arrange the following in increasing order of their basic strength in aqueous phase :
(A) \(CH_{3}NH_{2}\)
(B) \(C_{6}H_{5}CH_{2}NH_{2}\)
(C) \(C_{6}H_{5}NH_{2}\)
(D) \((CH_{3})_{3}N\)
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
- A (A), (B), (C), (D)
- B (A), (C), (B), (D)
- C (B), (A), (D), (C)
- D (C), (B), (D), (A)
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(D) (C), (B), (D), (A)
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
Basicity in aqueous phase is determined by inductive effect (+I), resonance effect, solvation of the conjugate acid, and steric hindrance. • \(C_{6}H_{5}NH_{2}\) (C): Lone pair on N is delocalized by resonance with the benzene ring, making it the least basic. •…

Carbohydrates are naturally formed organic compounds from various plants. The common chemical formula, \(C _x\left( H _2 O \right)_y\), was considered as hydrates of carbon to derive the various carbohydrates. For instance, the general formula for glucose ( \(C _6 H _{12} O _6\) ) easily fits into the above formula. Carbohydrates also called saccharides are classified on the basis of their behavior towards hydrolysis. Monosaccharides cannot be hydrolyzed further to simpler units of polyhydroxy aldehyde or ketones. About 20 monosaccharides are known to occur in nature. Carbohydrates that yield large number of monosaccharide units are called polysaccharides. Amino acids contain ( \(- NH _2\) ) and ( - COOH ), which can be classified in various forms. Proteins are polymers of alpha amino acids which are connected to each other by a peptide bond or peptide linkage. When a native protein is subjected to physical change, its globules unfold and helix get uncoiled and the protein loses its biological activity. The protein is said to be denaturated.

\(KMnO _4\) is prepared by the fusion of \(MnO _2\) with an alkali metal hydroxide and an oxidizing agent like \(KNO _3\) to give a dark-green manganate ion which disproportionate to give permanganate as follows.
\(\begin{array}{l}2 MnO _2+4 KOH + O _2 \rightarrow 2 K_2 MnO _4+2 H _2 O \\ 3 K_2 MnO _4+4 H ^{+} \rightarrow 2 KMnO _4+ MnO _2+2 H _2 O \end{array}\)
On heating \(K _2 MnO _4\) decomposes at 513 K to give \(K _2 MnO _4\). Permanganate ion is tetrahedral and diamagnetic
Acidified \(KMnO _4\) acts a strong oxidizing agent which oxidizes oxalic acid, ferrous ions, nitrite ion and iodides.
HCl is not used to make the medium acidic in oxidation reaction of \(KMnO _4\) in acidic medium, because....CUET 2025 Easy - Coagulating power of an ion for a colloidal solution depends on :CUET 2023 Easy
