CUET · CHEMISTRY · PYQ PAPER 2023
Answer the questions on the basis of passage given below :
As aldehydes ketones possess the carbonyl functional group, they show similar reactions. They exhibit nucleophilic addition reactions, reduction, oxidations, reactions due to alpha-Hydrogen atom, and many other reactions, like Cannizzaro reaction to electrophilic substitution reactions (in case of aromatic aldehydes ketones).
These reactions help in the preparation of a number of important compounds, like acetic acid, vinyl acetate, polymers and in perfume and dye industries. Nucleophilic addition reactions form cyanohydrins, acetals, alcohols and N -substituted derivatives like imine, oxime, semicarbazone, phenylhydrazone Schiff's base. Reactions due to alpha-hydrogen atoms help in formation of aldols and alpha, beta-unsaturated aldehydes ketones.
Which of the following does not give iodoform test?

Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
- A A, B only
- B B and D only
- C A and C only
- D B, D and E Only
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(C) A and C only
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
Compounds that give iodoform test have \( \text{CH}_3\text{CO-} \) or \( \text{CH}_3\text{CH(OH)-} \) group. A: \( \text{CH}_3\text{COCH}_3 \) - No \( \text{CH}_3\text{CO-} \). Does not give test. B: \( \text{CH}_3\text{CH}_2\text{CHO} \) - Has \( \text{CH}_3\text{CO-} \) or…

Optically active polyhydroxy aldehydes or ketones or molecules which provide such units on hydrolysis are called carbohydrates. They can be broadly classified as monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides depending on their behavior towards hydrolysis. They are also classified as reducing or non-reducing sugars. Another class of biomolecules is proteins which are polymers of twenty different amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Amino acids can be classified as acidic, basic or neutral depending on the relative number of amino and carboxyl groups in their
molecule. The essential amino acids cannot be synthesized by our body and hence must be provided through diet. Nucleic acids are the polymers of nucleotides which in turn consist of a base, pentose sugar and phosphate. There are two types of nucleic acids namely, DNA and RNA which differ in the composition of sugar and a base

- Read the following passage carefully and answer the given questions.
Plasmodium, a tiny protozoan is responsible for the disease malaria. Different species of Plasmodium (P. vivax, P. malaria and P. falciparum) are responsible for different types of malaria. Of these, malignant malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum is the most serious one and can even be fatal. Innate immunity consist of four types of barriers. These are – (i) Physical barriers- skin on our body is the main barrier which prevents entry of the micro-organisms. (ii) Physiological barriers- Acid in the stomach, saliva in the mouth, tears from eyes-all prevent microbial growth. (iii) Cellular barriers- Certain types of leukocytes (WBC) of our body like polymorpho-nuclear leukocytes (PMNL-neutrophils) and monocytes and natural killer (type of lymphocytes) in the blood as well as macrophages in tissues can phagocytose and destroy microbes. (iv) Cytokine barriers- virus-infected cells secrete proteins called interferons which protect non-infected cells from further viral infection. Allergy is due to the release of chemicals like histamine and serotonin from the mast cells. The use of drugs like anti-histamine, adrenalin and steroids quickly reduce the symptoms of allergy. Drugs like barbiturates, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and other similar drugs, that are normally used as medicines to help patients cope with mental illnesses like depression and insomnia, are often abused.
