Answer the question on the basis of passage given below :
All transition elements display typical metallic properties like high melting point, boiling point, tensile strength, high malleability and ductility, luster, etc. Their metallic character increases down the group and elements of 4d and 5d series exhibit higher metallic characters. They show variable oxidation states and forms a number of coloured compounds due to the presence of unpaired electrons which shows d-d transitions and makes them paramagnetic.
Which out of the following coordination compounds are colourless in nature?
A. \(\left[ Cr \left( NH _3\right)_6\right] Cl _3\)
B. \(\left[ Co \left( NH _3\right)_6\right] Br _3\)
C. \(K _3\left[ Fe ( CN )_6\right]\)
D. \(\left[ MnCl _2(e n)_2\right]^{+}\)
E. \(\left[ Ni ( CO )_4\right]\)
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
- A B, D
- B A, C
- C B, E
- D C, D
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(C) B, E
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
A. \(\left[ Cr \left( NH _3\right)_6\right] Cl _3\): \(Cr^{3+}\) is \(d^3\). Unpaired electrons: 3. Coloured. B. \(\left[ Co \left( NH _3\right)_6\right] Br _3\): \(Co^{3+}\) is \(d^6\). \(\text{NH}_3\) is strong field, so low spin. Unpaired electrons: 0. Colourless. C.…

DNA Fingerprinting
Polymorphism in DNA sequence is the basis of genetic mapping of the human genome as well as of DNA fingerprinting. DNA fingerprinting involves identification of differences in some specific regions in the DNA sequence called repetitive DNA. It works on the principle of polymorphisms in DNA sequences. The repetitive DNA are separated from bulk genomic DNA. The bulk DNA forms a major peak and the other small peaks are referred to as satellite DNA. These repetitive/satellite DNA sequences show a high degree of polymorphisms and form the basis of DNA fingerprinting.

The DNA fragments can be separated by a technique known as gel electrophoresis. Since DNA fragments are negatively charged molecules, they can be separated by forcing them to move towards the anode under an electric field through a medium/matrix. The separated DNA fragments can be visualised only after staining the DNA with a compound known as ethidium bromide followed by exposure to UV radiation. The repeated amplification of DNA is achieved by the use of a thermostable DNA polymerase (isolated from a bacterium, Thermus aquaticus). After completion of the biosynthetic stage, the product has to be subjected through a series of processes before it is ready for marketing as a finished product. The downstream processing and quality control testing vary from product to product. The convention for naming restriction enzymes is the first letter of the name comes from the genus and the second two letters come from the species of the prokaryotic cell from which they were isolated.
