CUET · CHEMISTRY · PYQ PAPER 2023
Answer the question on basis of passage given below :
Adsorption is surface phenomenon and it differs from absorption which occurs throughout the body of the substance which absorbs. In physisorption the attractive forces are mainly van der Waal forces while in chemisorption actual bonding occurs between the particles of adsorbent and adsorbed more easily on the surface of a solid as compared to the gases which are liquified with difficulty. Adsorption increases with the increases in pressure and decreases as temperature is increased.
The ease with which the gases \(H _2, CH _4, CO _2 \backslash \& NH _3\) are adsorbed on the surface of charcoal is -
- A \(H _2> CH _4> CO _2> NH _3\)
- B \(CH _4> CO _2> NH _3> H _2\)
- C \(CO _2> NH _3> H _2> CH _4\)
- D \(NH _3> CO _2> CH _4> H _2\)
Answer & Solution
Correct Answer
(D) \(NH _3> CO _2> CH _4> H _2\)
Step-by-step Solution
Detailed explanation
Ease of adsorption is directly proportional to ease of liquefaction (related to critical temperature). Order of ease of liquefaction for the given gases: \(NH_3 > CO_2 > CH_4 > H_2\). Therefore, the ease of adsorption is: \(NH_3 > CO_2 > CH_4 > H_2\).

Transition metals form a large number of complexes or coordination compounds in which the metal atoms are bound to a number of anions or neutral molecules. The valence bond theory explain the formation, magnetic behaviour and geometrical shapes while the crystal field theory explains the effect of different crystal fields on the degeneracy of d-orbitals energies of the central metal atom/ion. This provides for the quantitative estimation of orbital separation energies, magnetic moments and spectral and stability parameters.CUET 2023 Easy - If A is a square matrix of order 3, B = kA and |B| = x|A| then,CUET 2023 Hard
