Productivity in the Ecosystem
The flow of energy through a terrestrial ecosystem starts with the harnessing of sunlight by autotrophs. The radiant energy is converted by photosynthesis to organic compounds is known as productivity. The productivity is expressed in units of energy per unit of area per unit time. The amount of organic matter present at any given time is biomass. The productivity of any ecosystem is affected by many parameters like weather conditions, nutrient availability etc. The productivity of any ecosystem does vary seasonally and yearly.
The biomass available for consumption by herbivores and decomposers is known as-CUET 2025 Easy - Match List - I with List - II.

Certain types of leukocytes (WBC) of our body like polymorpho-nuclear leukocytes (PMNL-neutrophils) and monocytes and natural killer (type of lymphocytes) in the blood as well as macrophages in tissues can phagocytose and destroy microbes. For determining the cause of allergy, the patient is exposed to or injected with very small doses of possible allergens, and the reactions studied. The use of drugs like anti-histamine, adrenalin and steroids quickly reduce the symptoms of allergy. Heroin, commonly called smack is chemically diacetylmorphine which is a white, odourless, bitter crystalline compound. This is obtained by acetylation of morphine. Techniques like radiography (use of X-rays), CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) are very useful to detect cancers of the internal organs. Different species of Plasmodium (P. vivax, P. malaria and P. falciparum) are responsible for different types of malaria. Of these, malignant malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum is the most serious one and can even be fatal.

There are mainly four series of the transition metals, \(3 d\) series ( \(S c\) to Zn), \(4 d\) series (Y to Cd), \(5 d\) series (La and Hf to Hg ) and 6d series which has Ac and elements from Rf to Cn . The two series of the inner transition metals; \(4 f\) ( Ce to Lu ) and \(5 f\) (Th to Lr ) are known as lanthanoids and actinoids respectively. Their chemical properties are transitional between those of \(s\) and \(p\) block elements. The transition metals (with the exception of Zn, Cd and Hg) are very hard and have low volatility. Their melting and boiling points are high. Transition metals have incomplete d subshell either in neutral atom or in their ions. With partly filled d orbitals these elements exhibit certain characteristic properties such as display of a variety of oxidation states, formation of coloured ions and entering into complex formation with a variety of ligands. The transition metals and their compounds are known for their catalytic activity.
In general the electronic configuration of outer orbitals of transition metals is \((n - 1)d^{1-10}ns^{1-2}\) but Pd shows an exceptional electronic configuration as......CUET 2025 Easy - Read the passage carefully and answer the questions
Sodium dichromate \(Na _2 Cr _2 O _7\) and Potassium dichromate \(K _2 Cr _2 O _7\) are strong oxidizing agents; in acidic solution, its oxidising action can be represented as follows :
\(Cr _2 O _7^{2-}+14 H ^{+}+6 e^{-} \rightarrow 2 Cr ^{3+}+7 H _2 O \left( E ^{\circ}=1.33 V\right)\)
The chromates and dichromates are interconvertible in aqueous solution depending upon pH of the solution.
The chromate ion is tetrahedral whereas the dichromate ion consists of two tetrahedra sharing one corner with \(Cr - O - Cr\) bond angle of \(126^{\circ}\)
Potassium permanganate is prepared by fusion of \(MnO _2\) with an alkali metal hydroxide and an oxidising agent like \(KNO _3\).
This produces the dark green \(K _2 MnO _4\) which disproportionates in a neutral or acidic solution to give permanganate. It is a strong oxidizing agent. Hydrogen ion concentration of the solution plays
an important part in the reduction of permanganate to manganate, manganese dioxide and manganese(II) salt.
Potassium permanganate forms dark purple (almost black) crystals which are isostructural with those of \(KClO _4\).
The salt is not very soluble in water \((6.4 g / 100 g\) of water at 293 K ), but when heated it decomposes at 513 K.
