Choose the correct answer from the options given below:CUET 2025 Easy - Microbes in human welfare Microbes are a very important component of life on earth. we use microbes and microbially derived products almost every day, like LAB to make curd, yeast to make bread, adding flavor and texture to cheese, producing antibiotics etc. The addition of LAB, improves the milk quality by increasing vit. B12. Cheese is one of the oldest food items in which microbes are used. For example, large holes in Swiss cheese are due to CO2 produced by the bacterium Propionibacterium sharmanii. The BOD test measures the rate of uptake of oxygen by microorganisms in a sample of water and thus, indirectly, BOD is a measure of the organic matter present in the water. The greater the BOD of waste water, the more is its polluting potential. In anaerobic sludge digesters, bacteria produce a mixture of gases like methane, hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide. These gases form biogas and can be used as a source of energy. Biofertilisers are organisms that enrich the nutrient quality of the soil. The main sources of biofertilisers are bacteria, fungi and cyanobacteria. You have studied about the nodules on the roots of leguminous plants formed by the symbiotic association of Rhizobium. These bacteria fix atmospheric nitrogen into organic forms, which is used by the plant as a nutrient. Other bacteria can fix atmospheric nitrogen while free-living in the soil (examples Azospirillum and Azotobacter).

When a metal is placed in a solution of its ions, the metal can lose electron and can go in the solution as ion or the metal ion in the solution can take electron from the electrode and get deposited as metal. Thus, the electrode acquires either positive or negative charge with respect to the solution leading to the development of a potential difference between the metal electrode and the solution. This potential difference is called the electrode potential of the metal. The electrode potential of a metal is a measure of relative tendency to undergo oxidation (loss of electron) or reduction (gain of electron). When the concentration of the ions in the solution is unity, the electrode potential is called standard electrode potential. The magni of potential depends upon the nature of electrode, concentration of ions in solution and the temperature. In a galvanic cell, the electrode at which oxidation occurs is known as anodic half-cell and the electrode at which reduction occurs is known as cathodic half cell. The emf of the cell in terms of standard reduction potential is given by \(E_{\text {cell }}^{\circ}=E_{\text {cathode }}^{\circ}-E_{\text {anode. }}^{\circ}\).The standard free energy change of the redox reaction taking place in the cell is related to \(E_{\text {cell }}^{\circ}\) by \(\Delta G^{\circ}=-n F E^{\circ}\). A redox reaction would occur spontaneously if the free energy change is negative. The equilibrium constant of the reaction is related to the standard free energy change by \(\Delta G^{\circ}=-R T \ln K\).

does not change withCUET 2025 Medium - There are two kinds of nucleases - exonucleases and endonucleases. Exonucleases remove nucleotides from the ends of the DNA whereas, endonucleases make cuts at specific positions within the DNA. The cutting of DNA by restriction endonucleases results in the fragments of DNA. These fragments can be separated by a technique known as gel electrophoresis. Since DNA fragments are negatively charged molecules they can be separated by forcing them to move towards the anode under an electric field through a medium/matrix. Small volume cultures cannot yield appreciable quantities of products. To produce in large quantities, the development of bioreactors, where large volumes (100 - 1000 litres) of culture can be processed, was required. Thus, bioreactors can be thought of as vessels in which raw materials are biologically converted into specific products, individual enzymes, etc., using microbial plant, animal or human cells. PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction. In this reaction, multiple copies of the gene (or DNA) of interest are synthesised in vitro using two sets of primers (small chemically synthesised oligonucleotides that are complementary to the regions of DNA) and the enzyme DNA polymerase.
Bioreacters are generally used to process large volumes of culture toobtain yield of desire protein. Identify the correct volume of given culture processed by a bio-reactor?CUET 2025 Hard - A chain reaction in fission of uranium is possible becauseCUET 2025 Hard

Sutton and Boveri argued that the pairing and separation of a pair of chromosomes would lead to the segregation of a pair of factors they carried. Sutton united the knowledge of chromosomal segregation with Mendelian principles and called it the chromosomal theory of inheritance. Following this synthesis of ideas, experimental verification of the chromosomal theory of inheritance by Thomas Hunt Morgan and his colleagues, led to discovering the basis for the variation that sexual reproduction produced. Morgan worked with the tiny fruit files, which were found very suitable for such studies. They could be grown on simple synthetic medium in the laboratory. They complete their life cycle in a short span of time and a single mating could produce a large number of progeny flies. Also, there was a clear differentiation of the sexes - the male and female flies are easily distinguishable. Also, it has many types of hereditary variations that can be seen with low power microscopes.
